Buenos Aires Gay Agenda 2006

 ∞ December 2006∞

Theater: "Fuerza Bruta"

"Fuerzabruta", was created and directed by Diqui James (founder of De La Guarda group). No show in this season generated such a big expectation as the opening of "Fuerzabruta". This avant-garde play doesn't have dialogues, so non-Spanish speaking can enjoy it the same as locals.

Fuerza Bruta is back in Buenos Aires for 4 weeks. The show was first played in Buenos Aires and after a very successful World tour comes back for the ones who missed it in the previous presentation.

In this show there is a bigger and more complex tent than in the previous one (Villa Villa). A tent that will take life and be mutate in almost imperceptible ways.

"Fuerzabruta" is a trip of images with a recurrent element: the history of a man who against all odds decides to walk. Sometimes, within the limits of his energies; others, breaking doors which lead to the same place. In other moments, it is on the verge of flying.

The trip that James proposes has in some moments a trapping poetic intensity. Women go playing with giant waves of a complex plastic beauty (it would be necessary to clarify that the difficulty to transmit this experience is transformed into one of its virtues). Later, another woman remains with the lost glance while its body is swinged from one side to the other in a strange balance between calmness and violence. In another scene, the man who walks raises enormous stairs as if he was a picture of Escher. A little guy that, from the heights, is observed by the thousand fascinated faces that they cover the tent.

There is more: a furious and cathartic electronic music moment, or a scene with a sink located above the head of the spectators, of a indescriptible plastic power.

"Fuerzabruta" is a great mechanical gear turned one of the protagonists of this celebration. Like Chaplin in "modern Times", the actors and technicians flow between those enormous structures walking over the public or by his flanks as if they were the manipulators of the immense pieces of a more immense mecano.

With this new proposal, Diqui James demonstrates that his creative energy is intact and that from a point of view of production has grown of a formidable way. And not only by the economic investment in game, but by its capacity to have formed a maintenance battalion that investigated materials and it put them to the service of a assembly contagious, cathartic, seductive and oníric performance.

Where: Centro Municipal de Exposiciones. Av Figueroa Alcorta & Puerredon (back of the Buenos Aires University School of Law), Recoleta

When: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of June, July, August. (Extended to July and August due success of the performance. May extended more months).

This is the second version of the Darkroom mounted by Jacoby, one of the fundamental artists of the Argentine vanguard of the Sixties and, at the present time, a referring one of the new generations. The first edition of this work was in the gallery Beauty and Happiness, of Buenos Aires, in August of 2002.

Jacoby Robert (Buenos Aires, 1944) was born in Buenos Aires in 1944. In 1966 he began to experiment with sculpture objects and participated in the exhibition Tribute to Vietnam with works in polyester based on photographies of newspapers. That same year, began to work around the circuits of massive communication, that indicated the process of dematerialization of the art work. Next to Eduardo Costa and Raul Escari an art of mass media wrote "El Manifiesto", producing a series of works that took massive means, the telephone, the recorder or the urban space like concepts and matter of experimentation. In 1968 it participated in Experiences 68 in the Institute Torcuato Di Tella and took part in the creation and accomplishment of the collective action Tucumán Arde. Between 1980 and 1990 it wrote the letters of almost all the songs of the group numerous Virus and produced shows artistic, spectacles moved multimedia and one of nomadic discotecas.

After twenty years of distance of the visual artistic production, as of 1988, it made facilities in the Institute of Latin American Cooperation, the Cultural Center Red Ricardo and numerous ephemeral spaces. In 2000, it created the concept of ramona, a magazine of visual arts and Web site. Also it proposed the concept and it promoted the Venus Project, an experimental society of artists and nonartists who received in 2002 the Guggenheim scholarship.
